I hope that will not change. All depends whom we encounter I suppose. :?

I hope you've all signed the petitions for a People's Vote / Final say - may be the last chance to stop this catastrophe

Thank you, hermanmunster.
I had posted it in the Birmingham section as this conference is taking place in Birmingham.

Sometimes, there are conferences in other cities (Londoners being lucky as being the most spoiled by these!).
What I could do is try to update this thread in this 'everything else' section by the conferences I hear about in other cities.
:wink:
This event will take place in Manchester:

OH will be among those demonstrating outside the Tory Party conference in Birmingham later this month, and has booked to attend a session with JRM in order to heckle!
We will both hopefully be attending the People's Vote march in London https://www.peoples-vote.uk/march" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on Oct 20th (we were at the march last Sept followed by waving our EU flags at the Last Night) . There's a list of other events here https://www.peoples-vote.uk/events" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

TBH all the effort seen on this forum as parents concerned with our children's education will seem pretty hollow if their futures (and their ability to live and work freely in 27 other countries ) are sacrificed on the altar of false nostalgia for a golden age when Britannia ruled the waves. Good careers in STEM, in universities, in music, in medicines, in engineering, etc are already being damaged by loss of Horizon funding, the loss of the European Medicines agency, relocation of investment in manufacturing etc - all so that the "elite" can scrap European regulations on things like worker safety. But never fear, there will be plenty of jobs picking lettuces and working in care homes to look after all the returning OAPs from the Costas....

Did anyone see any of the Last Night of the Proms at the weekend? In one of the most British of British events it was encouraging to see a large number of EU flags being waved alongside the Union Jacks. :)

I found it very revealing that whilst there were many EU flags on display in the Albert Hall itself, I did not notice a single one in the shots from the "Proms in the Park" in Swansea/Glasgow etc.

Yes as mentioned we were there last year (DS2 sings with the chorus so he gets the chance to apply for up to 2 tickets) and watching on TV this time we were very glad to see plenty of flags again - and the berets which even the BBC couldn't avoid with their cameras! See Howard Goodall's thoughts here http://www.howardgoodall.co.uk/articles ... 0-eu-flags" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re the "Proms in the Park" - I've noticed the same thing. I assume they tend to attract a wider "one-off" audience for whom singing "Land of Hope & Glory" while waving a Union Jack is the whole point, whereas many of those who get tickets for LNOTP (there's a ballot) have usually attended several more Proms in the season so will be more classical music lovers generally and - dare I say it - rather more anti-brexit than the average attendees to the park events. PLus LNOTP has always been an end-of-term party occasion where flags of all nations (including the EU) were waved in good humour rather than tribalism (I also went 5 years ago) - so it was an obvious internationally filmed event to target with the flags/berets, and plenty of sympathisers already on hand in the audience. (The huge round of applause given to a soloist who played a piano transcription of "Ode to Joy" at another Prom last year also indicates the allegiance of classical music audiences)

You are quite right solimum. The "elite", who attend the Last Night of the Proms (and - dare I say it - who post on elevenplus forum) are clearly "rather more anti-brexit than the average attendees to the park events". Indeed from the television images that appears to be quite an understatement!
