Talking of rampant unfettered capitalism, after scanning the ratings at boardgamegeek.com I shelled out for a copy of "Brass: Lancashire" for this Christmas, will report results next time this question gets asked. The obvious risk (see what I did there?) is that boardgame geeks might take the whole thing too seriously for us ordinary folk. Hopefully even if the game is no good I'll have plenty of oportunities for "Trouble at t'mill!" and "A brown paper bag? You were lucky!" type interventions to wear down the opposition.

Second vote for Ticket to Ride (the Europe edition) - I love it! Codenames is also fun although not strictly speaking a board game (there's no board).

If you like card-based games Sushi Go is fun and quick, and Red 7 is brilliant.

Yoyo, I've just looked at Dragonology on that delivery service and the only one I could find was £170! Perhaps it comes with a free dragon
True. Probably best to stick to the traditional version of Monopoly even if it does promote rampant unfettered capitalism! :D

I have to admit I've never heard of most of the games mentioned so far. Are they quite specialist/niche or am I just out of touch?
I don't think most of them are too niche although we do have board game enthusiasts in our family who have bought for us in the past so have probably widened our experience.
Dominion also isn't a true board game as it's only got cards.
Ds just got given a card game "A Shot in the Dark" which is brilliant - really good for all the family as you don't have to know anything really and can be played with any number of people.

We like Linkee, Articulate and Dingbats.

We also have great fun playing guess the intro. A few bars of a tune and you have to guess at least one thing about it.

A choice of decade is available.

No actual board but a cd instead and some answer forms.

Any amount can play from just one! DG

Discovered Linkee last week. Not a board game as such but great fun.
