some people must just have an affinity. My parents had a friend, a carpenter, a modest man, who claimed to speak 17 languages. He lumped all the Nordic ones in together thinking that once you knew one, you knew them all .... and didn't even count Russian amongst one of his 17. Then he was arrested in Russia, when on a holiday there in, what? the 80s?? Arrested for being on the tourist floor. They would not believe that he was not Russian, despite his passport, for his (according to him "poor") Russian was so good. He was detained for 3 weeks. And yet he was happiest pootling in his shed with blocks of wood.
