School Sports Teams

In my DD friend's school (an "Academy") you are only allowed to represent the school in sports if you sign up to do Sports "Science" GCSE!
Anyone come across this before? Personally I think this sucks.

sounds dire.... trust some of the better sporting kids will just go and play for clubs... county ... country...

I expect the rules will be changed if enough kids don't sign up for the course and the school starts losing!
