Re: Yet another books for boys question (13yo)
My 13 year old likes the teen range books (not the adult) of James Patterson and Chris Ryan.

Going through a similar phase with ds1 (also exhausted his books).
So far, he's hooked on Agatha Christie. Wodehouse's Psmith stories and the magazine, How it works also keeps him entertained. Thinking of slipping him some biographies to try out next.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, please keep them coming (because I have to say he's already read most of them so far I'm afraid - it's the quantity he reads that's the problem, we're running out of ideas...again). Our local library is about 98% crime fiction which he doesn't seem to be interested in and I think he's read just about everything else there, both teenage and adult sections.

I don't know if it's good, but DS enjoyed the Patrick Ness trilogy.

Mike, if he likes fantasy novels, what about Christopher Paolini’s quadrilogy?
DD (13) has just started on Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series – 11 novels averaging 800 pages each
Also Sophie McKenzie, Alex Scarrow, Michael Grant.

The Belgariad series by David Eddings ?
My husband says he loved Flann O' Brien as a teenager.

I'd forgotten about the Belgariad series ( enjoyed reading that when I was younger). But the Mallorean was an anti-climax and quite corny (not green with envy)!

I have 13yr old twin boys, one of whom is currently reading the Christopher Paolini books mentioned. They have enjoyed the Hunger games and also the Time Riders (Alex Scarrow). The Book People currently have the Patrick Ness triology for £6.99 (free delivery code AFTURKEY) and the Noughts and Crosses set (Malorie Blackman) for a bargain price.
I have also brought the Lord Of The Rings Triology, The Owl Service (Garner), To Kill A Mocking Bird (requested), Call Of The Wild/White Fang (London) for a dog lover and Junk (Burgess) from Amazon to go in stockings.
Am contemplating Watership Down, but don't think they will be happy to get it out in public, "sigh."
