For those of you the other side of the paywall, here a quote,

“Subject to developments in national legislation and appropriate consultation, the college proposes a form of banded entry/partial selection in order to ensure that the academic needs of all children can be catered for, thus fulfilling the college’s vision of meeting the needs, academic and otherwise, of all children in the local and boarding communities,” Mr Boyle wrote.

“The college is committed to and has demonstrated its willingness and ability to cater for the needs of learners in receipt of the pupil premium and has a particularly strong track record with looked after children.”


So it may actually only amount to 'banding' - but then it would depend how places were allocated within the bands, e.g. random allocation or (the Thomas Telford version) highest scores within each band or whatever.
