Hi just wanted to know how many exams will they do by the end of yr7 my son is in GS

Which grammar school? There will be people on here with DCs at the school who may be able to help.

If the question is how many exams at the end of the year ( rather than by the end of the year) then most secondary schools will examine pupils in each subject they study although this may not include some of the practical subjects, especially if they are timetabled in rotation. The formality of the exams varies quite a bit though.
Have you checked the school web site? Or get your DS to ask his form teacher or more casually, a friend in year 8?

There is no one answer to this.
It is left to the school to decide how to approach this. This is not something the government gets involved in!
So you need to look at the policy of your school. This is a good question to ask at parent's evening. DG
