Pack 1, paper 3, Section 4 - Find the odd one out
My child finds more than answer sometimes as she sees different reasons why a different one could be the odd one out. Then she does not know which answer to choose and worries that the real exam will be full of questions like this.
For example,
Question 1: the published answer is d because it's the only one with the triangle oriented differently. My daughter says it could be a because that is the only one with two little lines on one side of the triangle - I said that's a printing error - she says how would she know that in the real thing?
Question 9: the published answer is e because it is the only one where the number of black spots does not equal the number of "branches on the tree". My daughter says that it could also be c because this is the only one where the number of branches is not prime ..... I feel this is not as good an answer because she has failed to take into account the number of black spots in each picture when reaching her conclusion but another part of me feels that they should have chosen the numbers differently in the question so that c also has an odd, prime number of branches.
What do you think? Will she get quandaries like this in the real thing?
