In the same shape size - 1st shape blank, 2nd shape lines one way and 3rd shape lines the other and then start again with increased shape size and blank.

I reasoned the same way you did. I got you on my side then.

But if you look at the previous shapes, the size in creases when the colour becomes white. So, what I thought was 1. white 2. slashes 3. backslashes 4. increase the size and then repeat.

If we code white as 1, slashes as 2 and back slashes as 3, and underline the number when the size increases,
my reasoning would be 3, 1, 2, 3, 1 and you can easily predict 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3...would follow.
and yours would be 3, 1, 2, 3, 1... and the rest is not that easily predicted, I think.
