Hi, Can someone please help with this NVR question. The answer is "D" which is same as 3rd shape in the question. I noticed 2nd shape and 5th shape are same in the question so obvious that 3rd shape will most probably be the answer which is option D and the answer. However i need to explain to my daughter what is happening from one shape to next in the series. Any explanation will be really appreciated.

I am not very good at explaining these things but here goes:

There are 2 sequences going along :

Internal pattern: Diamond - Square - Diamond - Square etc

External shape (high point): - left - right - right - left - left - right

so the next one would be: diamond / right

If you look at option "a", it also has the diamond and right high. The difference between "a" and "d" is the filling. "a" has the narrow line at the top while "d" has narrow line at the bottom.

In the answers, they say (horizontal and vertical inversion) which means 180 rotation but when i try to rotate shape 1 to 180, I dont get the second shape.

Please help!!

Label each diagram 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

1 and 2 are a pair (pair A)
3 and 4 are a pair (pair B)
5 and 6 are a pair (pair C)

Pairs A and C are identical

Next in the sequence needs to be identical to pair B

Therefore, the first part of the next pair would be option D

Thanks Patrica. It makes sense. I was trying to work out movement rules between diagrams 1,2,3,4,5,6 but probably thats not needed.

Thanks again
