*** HELP RE EXTRA TIME FOR ADHD CHILD

Hi everyone.

Pls can someone help point me in the right direction, and/or give me advice from own experience?

My child is due to sit the forthcoming VR exam and Maths exam next month.

My child has diagnosed ADHD.

I have heard that I can apply for extra time for my child for the forthcoming exams.

My questions are:

1. How do I apply for extra time for the forthcoming exams?
2. If I need to write a letter, what EXACTLY should I write?
3. Should I attach evidence of the diagnoses?
4. Who do I send it to? ie. is it county and/or is it to the chosen schools directly?

Any help would be most appreciated, since application forms have to be submitted by 21st October 2009, and the clock is ticking, and I am still confused ! :?

Thanks

Wish I could be of some help, suprised no-one with more SEN knowledge has come along before now.
We also have a non-statemented child with a recognised disability. We didn't know to ask for extra time.
My advice having come out the other side of the 11plus(last year)would be to talk to the school where the exam is to be sat direct.
Our son was out of catchment so sat weekend exams. If your child is taking the exam within his primary this is obviously a different situation.
Back up your spoken contact with email & letter if you feel you need to.We went to appeal & relied upon an email I sent as part of our case.
Not quite sure what else to say here-our cases do have some similarities.
Feel free to PM me. Sorry if I haven't been very clear here.

Do you have a Partnership with Parents group in you area? They are really helpful and give impartial advice. would be abe to tell you who
to contact and what you have to write.

Have you spoken to the Senco at the school?

Hi Confused,

In the first instance, ring the admissions officer of the school that you are applying for, ask them what they require in the way of evidence and what concessions would be available.

In general though, you should write a letter outlining your child's difficulties which you should be able to back up with report/evidence from and independent professional and or your current primary school.

Yes, do attach evidence of the diagnosis.

Depending upon which school in Herts, if Herts Consortium, it would be direct to the school that you are applying for.
I have also sent you a PM

Thank you everyone for your valuable input.

Very glad to say my DC has been awarded extra time for VR and Maths.

BUT .....

Did NOT get awarded extra time for NVR, so we are disheartened about that :?

Seems a bit unfair (IMHO)
