I wouldn't say you have to prove that, drummer, although it is certainly the test the appeal panel will be using.
All you need do is state your own case (why you're in this situation, why the appeal is late, why the school you're appealing for would best suit your son).
Getting a place at one of the heavily oversubscribed grammar schools could be very difficult, but, if you're flexible about which grammar school, there might be a chance at one of the others, especially if you're lucky enough to have a sympathetic panel.

The appeal is now in the post having been up til 1am trying to get it finished! We have asked them to schedule it for as soon as possible.
