tigger2,

I am rather dozy and overwhelmed by this news, but dh and friends have assured me dd should get in.

She scored 315, ranked 73rd. Our preferred school has had a highest pass mark (is that aqs?) of 311 over the past three years - and as the school is now taking 120, and we live in catchment, surely she will get in? We're in East Warwickshire, and hopefully we will get my dd into Rugby High School. I won't believe it till I get the allocation letter in March; but everyone assures me she should get in.

She did really well as she only had my dh and I to tutor - if you can call it tutoring - I can only imagine she tries harder in exams than at home! We're very proud. She's pleased she will go to the school she wants. I'm rather concerned they have no experience of diabetes. I guess that will mean a meeting with special needs? who? and the nurse going in, and plenty of supplies being kept at school.

Anyway, I know it's not a great score compared to many on here, but for us - for my dd - it's fantastic!

315 seems very low compared to many poor souls in South Warwickshire, where schools must be better and competition higher, as higher scores needed to get in. Seems unfair. Thank you for your congratulations. The support I've had on this site has been amazing. I can't wean myself off it but once I can - I must come back on here. I have a ds in year 2, who knows how he will do. So I will be back - and have a look now and then! Many thanks to everyone.

Ginx, as long as you are in area 2 (inner area) then your daughter is off to Rugby High. Many congratulations all round - you must be so proud of her, and I hope she's feeling very proud of herself!

I would recommend calling the school and asking for a meeting with the SENCO. Its worth it just to make them aware of the issues. (It will give you a chance to get a better feel for the school and ask any questions too)

Do you think I should contact them before allocations are officially made in March? I still can't believe she will definitely get there, but we are in catchment so I suppose there is definitely no reason why not.

My dd is very independent with her diabetes, unfortunately this means she leaves pricking her finger to test blood sugar when she's low until the end of a lesson. This is not good. She is too embarrassed to ask to leave the class - or whatever arrangements are in place. It's a problem that really only my daughter can solve.

When do you think I should contact them? I suppose it wouldn't hurt to contact them now?

Thank you for your help.

I would contact them now, it is best to get all the information early. It can't do any harm, and it will put your mind at ease and make it easier to put things in place.

I went to see the SENCO at one of the school my DS sat the exam for BEFORE the exam. I wanted to know it was the right place for him bfore putting him through all that, haha!

I am waiting to hear from the SENCO from the school he has chosen, to go and see them this week. The last thing you want is to be worrying until March! And after March chances are everything will be busy with just regular transitions....

I'm sure it will be fine, and they will be happy to meet with you. :-)

Thanks for your advice, Disney-Mum. I'll contact them and see what they say. You sound very organised! You're right, it can't do any harm. I'll ask the diabetes nurse for advice, too.

Not sure how pleased they'll be to meet me, though! Paranoid mother!

I hope your meeting with the SENCO goes well.

Aww, I am sure they will be more than happy to meet you - we met with the SENCO's for the non-grammar back up schools too.

I'm sure you're not paranoid - follow your gut! You know your child best!

I'm not sure about being organised, but after going through sending my eldest to a Specialist High School a year ago rather than mainstream, its made me realise how important it is to get this decision right!!

I am looking forward to the time where it is all sorted out, and all the decisions have been made!!! I'm sure something else will pop up soon enough though!
