Should we make DS sit the 11+?

We have been lucky enough to obtain a place for DS at our first choice of local school with a large rebate on the fees but are wondering whether to put him in for the 11+ anyway.
One never knows if circumstances will change in the future and if he does pass he would be able to "use" that pass for many years to come if there was a space at the local grammar and we needed it.
His current school are very confident that he will pass as he is good at maths and NVR but we are not sure we want to put him through the stress of it all.
What have other people done in this position?

Difficult one MW - what is there to lose by trying it?

Only thing I would say is that some LEA/ schools put a "time limit" on the pass, ie until the end of the next academic year or whatever - presumably this varies by LEA

I would sit him but I wouldn't tutor him.

personally I would say no. If there is a need for him to transfer later on, the school may ask him to sit a test just to see what level he is at and there would also be information from his school.

I know our local boy;s grammar do this for non routine entrants.

Use the time and effort you save to do something else more enjoyable
