"Back to the subject of scores; your son should be getting 75%-90%."

That depends on where you live - this is not the case in the non-super selective areas of Kent, for example."

Actuallly we are in Kent, so could you elaborate on this a little, and thanks to everyone for the feedback so far, its been really informative and helpful.

Kent ios a huge LEA, if you live towards the South East - Folkestone, Dover, Deal, Sandwich thena pass willusually get you a place at grammar, further towards the west of Kent a pass odes not necessarily guarantee a place as tehschools only take the highest scorers..

makes sense I suppose. Here on the coast, half our catchment area are fish

O - this message copmes with every sort of health warning. But if you live in Kent, reasonably near a grammar school and you are NOT in the scary super-selective Tunbridge Wells=y sort of area, then 60%ish has IN THE PAST, got you a grammar place. And even if you don;t live near a grammar school, getting higher marks will not increase your chance of a place - it doesn;t matter if you get 120 or 140 - a pass is a pass.

don;t panic. Mistakes help you to pinpoint where you need to practise more..we learn by making mistakes..

(in my case to excess ..and not necessarily just education)

Getting a high mark isn't necessary if you live in Tunbridge Wells unless you want your child to get a place at one of the superselectives. If this is the case a higher mark will increase your chance of getting a place.

Oh yes enjoy the remains of your hair while it lasts. Save some for GCSE and A levels, first girlfriend (your son not you) etc.

The pass mark ain't that high unless you are aiming for the superselectives. Use the practice questions you have in order to learn which areas your son needs to learn more about / practice more, not as a forecast of whether he is going to pass or not.

Remember exam technique too - just as important - put an answer to every question in the multichoice exam even if you don't know how to do it - have some way of knowing which questions you guessed and can go back to, time management - move on from questions that are taking too long.

Is the vocab expansion strictly necessary? Are you finding that he is unable to answer some of the VR questions due to missing vocab? If not, don't sweat about that prior to the 11+. Give up on that until after the 11+.

Do you already have some idea which papers your son needs more practice in that others? Anything that you can do to focus your time on gaining more marks in specific areas rather than trying to bash the whole lot between now and the exam will be useful. Faster and more accurate mental maths will help him not to waste marks in the maths on questions he understands but cannot complete quickly or accurately enough.

Good luck.
