Hi,
Would anyone know where RGS AND JHGS in High Wycombe are on the league tables compared to Herschel and Slough Grammer.

Will be grateful for a link or info.

FT Top 1000 is based on results of "academic" A-levels.

I wasn't aware there is a vast difference

It is a good idea to look at the detail behind the data. Slough grammar has a large intake at A level from other non-grammar schools in the area to provide Btec's etc. When compared with schools that may only take in a relatively low percentage of their 6th Form from other schools, and do not provide such qualifications, the gap can be seen as 'vast'.
The question is whether accepting students that haven't been given the 'grammar' education dilutes the academic rigour in 6th form is, I believe, down to the individual school.

Also factor in such things such as apparently JHGS insist on students getting a minimum of grade C in ALL their AS subjects before they can go in to Year 13.

....and RGS expects A or A* at GCSE for subjects to be taken at A level. There is so much information that cannot be gleaned from raw data.

A slight correction to that, andy - this is from the sixth form admissions policy for RGS:

- Grade B GCSE is required in subjects an applicant wishes to study at AS/A2 level. If the subject has not been studied at GCSE level, applicants should contact the Head of Sixth Form.
- Grade A GCSE is required to study a Modern Language at AS/A2 level
- Grade A/A GCSE are required in Dual Science to study any of the Sciences at AS/A2 level

I think that sort of condition is fairly common in GS, and probably not an unrealistic expectation considering they're likely to be the best subjects of people already selected for ability.

Yeah, I think that’s the same at Challoner’s, and entry into the sixth form is by no means automatic – they take your 8 best GCSEs and I believe the minimum requirement is 4 x As and 4 x Bs.

I really should know this as DS does his GCSEs this year…
