I like the ear lobe idea! We need an accelerator pedal too.
I really don't know if my children will listen to any of my exam technique tips. School doesn't teach them so I'm feeling a bit vulnerable on this score. Knowing them myself is one thing; passing them on to my own children is another.

Totally agree mystery....when advising others there is no personal emotion attached to cause bias and hence easier to be objective whereas when we are in the thick of our situation, it is a different ball game.
But children pick up a lot although we live under the illusion that they haven't. So keep at it

Yes I like to think I have given them some transferable skills ... ones that I never see at home but that may be used elsewhere e.g. eating with a fork, using a tissue, tidying up a little.
