A quick look through this suggests that maybe they're setting the bar a bit too high for the level 6 reading, and a bit too low for the maths. A big discrepancy between the numbers achieving level 6 across the subjects.

"In 2013, 0% of pupils were awarded a level 6 in reading (note a level 6 was awarded to approximately 2,178 pupils in reading, but as a percentage this rounds to 0), no change from the figure of 0% last year"

"Level 6 (in mathematics) was awarded to 7% of pupils, an increase of 3 percentage points from last year’s figure of 3%. Boys outperformed girls at this level, with 8% of boys and 5% of girls achieving the level.

"A level 6 test in grammar, punctuation and spelling was also introduced this year and 2% of pupils were awarded level 6."

Yes, that could be the case. But, the stats are bit iffy as it's up to the teachers / school who they enter for these papers. Also, I would imagine it is difficult even for a very proficient well read year 6 child to have the kind of insight that might be needed for level 6 reading? I'm not really sure. Does anyone have a link to a level 6 reading test paper please?

A keen teacher at a school that has taught all the basic maths well can probably more easily get some children up to the top end of level 5 maths and therefore tip them into a pass on the level 6 paper compared with getting children to meet level 6 reading criteria. Maybe?

The thing that staggered me was the high percentage of level 5s in reading, writing, maths and SPAG.

When you look at that national data for the individual test results you start to wonder why some schools do as well as they do in ofsted inspections.

I'm staggered at how well Richmond upon Thames has done :
19% got level 6 at KS2 mathematics,
7% got level 6 SPAG

A neighbour borough, Kingston, got 15% (joint 2nd) and 5% (2nd) respectively

Whats going on in SW London ?

It may not be totally down to anything they're doing in the schools, but due the fact that it's in the heart of Tiffinland, and thus probably one of the biggest hotbeds of out of school tutoring.

But that doesn't explain why there are so few children from Richmond and Kingston in Tiffins? Are Tiffins' selection methods to blame?
