Multiple Choice Answering tips and techniques

Hi

Have been doing a few multiple choice mock papers with DD. Have found that DD has the knowledge but over the past few papers has been missing some questions (finished paper just in time so could not check) or worse still still has completely skipped a question and all the answers have shfted by one.

Can any parents help with tips and techniques they used with thier DC in the past to get over the above problem.

Panic stricken as after all the prep DD could just lose a place as she has skipped a question and all answers have shifted left

Any help greatly appreciated as my nerves are pretty frayed so close to D-Day

As the multiple choice papers usually have 80 questions you could suggest to DD that she makes a point of ensuring she is inserting the answer in the right box on every tenth question. For example, when she gets to question 11 she makes a point of ensuring that the answer goes into box 11 and the same at question 21, 31 etc. therefore if she gets to question 21 and realises that she has put the answer in box 22 she will only need to go back 10 questions to make sure everything is where it should be.
Does that make sense?

My DS struggled with this and I got him to keep a finger on the mc sheet and only move it to the next when he had answered the question. He had tried rulers but these would slip and in some exams they were not allowed so just keeping his finger in place was the easiest way.

Thanks for the tips. Will try to get DD to incorporate these in the last few practice papers

My DCs used a rubber on the question sheet, which was slightly to the side of them, moving it along with each question and their finger on the MC answer sheet, which was in front of them, checking every now and again that they were in the right place.

I think the fact that your DC has skipped a question whilst practising and then got everything out of sink, may mean that they wont do it again as they can see how wrong it can go if they dont concentrate. This is why you spend some much time doing practice papers so they can get it wrong now and not in the test.
