Son unable to sit exams due to hand injury sustained

My son was due to sit the Bucks exam today and also the South West Herts on Saturday. On Monday, he sustained an injury to his right thumb and is unable to write. We attended hospital and they have advised 6 weeks recovery time. Have contacted the Consortiums, one of which, offered the services of a Scribe. Has anyone else been through this scenario and what are the pros and cons. Fortunately, the injury could have been so much worse, and we are grateful that there were no broken bones. However the timing of this incident has thrown everything up into the air, considering that he is also due to sit a music exam. Any advice or experience of reserve date exams or scribes, would be sincerely appreciated...

My son had a similar problem the week before the 11+ and had his hand all bandaged up - however, due to the fact that the consultant had written on the discharge notes that he would need support with schoolwork, turning pages etc, he was offered help with a page turner/scribe in the exam. (He actually didn't use the help as CEM is mainly multiple choice and he just got on with it)
I have experience of being a scribe for someone (for their public exams) who broke their thumb, just before their GCSEs. For the essay subjects, he had a time allowance etc as he was not experienced in having to speak, wait for the scribe to write down and then carry on. For CEM which is mainly multiple choice, with decisions/calculations made mentally, this will be much less of a problem.
