We have just read and can recommend "Wolf Wilder" and "Girl Savage" by Katherine Rundell. She won an award for Rooftoppers which neither dd nor I particularly liked but the other 2 books she's written are excellent. I would say both could be read from age 10 ish. Be warned though - my 13 yo dd sobbed her way through Girl Savage!

I needed a children's book to show good reading at work so I grabbed Hollow Earth by John and Carol Barrowman off my son's bookshelf. I wasn't expecting much but I was very surprised the book was a page turner and would highly recommend it. There are 2 others in the series and I am now half way through the third one.
