Our school uses 'below age/at age/above age related expectation'. What I don't like about this system is that for both 'below age' and 'above age' related expectations, parents can't tell how much below or above the 'expected' their child is. Is it just a little bit or miles behind/ahead? Thankfully, we don't have this system in our secondary, just grades for each subject.

It's ludicrous.

We now have emerging, emerging plus, expected, expected plus, exceeding , exceeding plus..

or was that last week?

All you need to do is assign a number/letter combination to each of those (where a number would be a given school year) and you're nearly back to the old system (at least for the current, or last, week).

Thanks all. Pinkrabbit I appreciate the translating into NC levels, even though they are now defunct, they were my only point of reference. Just got dc's report and spring term's report was all about NC levels but this term it just says 'working at greater depth'.

I am probably just too old but it's just hard to translate what that means in terms of school entrance, Pinkrabbit's explanation makes sense so much appreciated and thanks all for clarifying. Am going to just assume 'working at greater depth' is good enough for the time being and wait for the new term. For the time being, we're not going to bother with a tutor as ds is busy anyway, may revisit it next year. :)
