The issue is with the middle classes and 11+ tourism.

If grammar schools were treated like special schools - for the truly gifted and not for those who could afford to travel round sitting different exams and pay for extravagant tutors - there would be far more social mobility than there is now

Who decides child is truly gifted? Would that involve any kind of test? Would it make any difference if these tests are called A, B or C or 11plus or 13plus test?

There is no reliable test at 10 years of age that can accurately predict the potential of a child once contextual factors are stripped out.

All it can measure is prior attainment.

At 13 years old it can reasonably measure aptitude-academic or vocational, that's about all,
only at 16+ can formal IQ tests have any validity because the evidence shows IQ is not fixed at birth but develops over time dependent on nature and nurture.

So giftedness is nonsensical prior to the age of 16, most of the true geniuses showed little promise in their yearly life -Einstein is a prime example.
