What study plans work for one child won't necessarily work for your child. You need to work out the areas of weakness and know what type of score you need and go from there. Our strategy was never a 'plan', it was more about adapting what we focused on over time. We spent more time on the weakest areas whilst keeping the other areas ticking over. For my DD we did mock tests in the spring which helped with some of the identification of what were the weaker areas.

What type of test you are doing has a bearing, if it is GL and someone else did CEM that won't help you quite so much. Also what type of grammar you are applying to, if you need a superselective score or just need a pass, the latter may mean you don't need to be looking for such high scores so if the standard is already good then you just need to maintain that and not put too much pressure on your DC. I see from another post that you are aiming for your son to sit the St Olaves tests so you know the standard will be very high indeed.

We also worked on timing, juggling papers on a table (question paper, answer paper, scrap paper) and keeping concentration up whilst I dropped things on purpose to try and replicate what could distract DD in the exam hall etc.

We only allocated an hour at most a week, for DD it would have got tedious to do any more, but again other children may be very different and need a different amount of time.

You need to specify the school and the exam format as your approach will depend on this. DG

If you let us know which school(s) you are going for we can transfer your request to the right region, where people should be able to give you more specific advice.
