From primary to selective school

After reading the postings on this site, especially the messages relating to “tutor or not to tutor”, I stumbled across the following quote*. It is yet another reason (as if we need one) why so many of us parents strive, often against the odds, to get our children into the best schools. Selective schools are not faultless, but the prospect of our children left to coast at (often sink) comprehensive schools is too much for many of us to bear.

"There is an absolute driver going throughout the independent system that no child can be allowed to fail and you have to find all the different ways in which a child can succeed. It is not systematic in the maintained system."

*Dr Jill Gould, former head of an independent school commenting on what she regards as the biggest contrast between maintained and independent schools.
