11+ for 14 year old student

Post by arthur »

Hi there,

we've only moved recently to the UK and now I'd like to know how to pass the 11+ exam. My son is 14 - there seems to be a lot of books out there for the normal age of Grammar school entry (at 11) but I don't know how we can prepare for it when the kids are older.
The test is in April - we have no clue what to prepare for (Bexley Grammar)
Thanks in advance

Your DS won’t be able to take the 11+ as such. That time has been and gone for him.

Are you looking at in year admissions as described here.

It looks like it’s CEM based. I’d look at KS3 books for maths and English as a start, but I’m sure someone with experience will be along.

I would expect tests in mathematics and English at the very least.

Thanks Tinkers and Piggys,

CEM-based: I've looked it up, I think it is a service for schools, not for students, right?
Thanks for the link

There is a link to a familiarisation test on the Beth's website (which can't be opened on a phone). As you only have to take one test and can apply to all the appropriate grammar schools for your DC's gender through your first preference one, presumably its the same test for all four?

You could always contact the school, explain you’ve just moved to the UK and ask their advice. They obviously can’t give you the content but can steer you in the right direction. They would also be able to give you an indication of the number of in term entries they have and what level your son needs to be achieving.
