Hi

My son in Year 5 did well in his CATS -Verbal - 125, Quantiative 140, NV 123, Spatial 131..however he has had a couple of mini tests with tutor group and his score his really low - 50% - I know alot of it has to do with his timing but do CAT scores often give an indicative indication of whether your child might pass?

Thanks

Not especially. Although they are often used as evidence in appeals.

If timing is an issue for him - especially if he will be taking any CEM 11+ tests, then that is what you need to work on.

OK thanks.

It is GL. We are going to do a couple of mocks and keep telling him to move on if he cant do a question...

I think high cats scores show a natural ability but you still need practise in the format of the 11+ in your area ie; CEM or GL or whatever. Accuracy and speed seem to be the most important things for the grammar school tests.
