Eltham Hill School or Crowns Wood or Harris Academy ?

Post by sbat »

Hi All,

We are looking for schools for our daughter for an In Year 9 admissions .

We are looking for schools in Eltham, and we found elthamhill (elthamhill.com) , crowns wood (http://scwa.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), Harris Academy (https://www.harrisgreenwich.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) are they good schools ? There is a mix response when i look at the google reviews.

Does anyone have a opinion about these schools ?

How difficult is it to get into them In Year ? Or please can anyone suggest a similar school in Eltham ?

Thanks
Tb

I don’t know these schools but living in a bordering borough I know some choose Bromley schools over some Greenwich border ones but other than the two grammar schools I don’t know why. There are some girls at DD’s school (Newstead) who come from Greenwich but in year places are extremely rare and competiton at any entrance test very fierce as a result.

Harris has a reputation for managing out pupils who won’t make their stats look good, a FOI request backed up this with data on the number of children who left at crunch points that wouldn’t affect their statistics. How good they are at teaching I don’t know, most parents I speak to seem to see Harris like marmite- you either love them or hate them.

Families do move and places do come up in SE London schools but it is very random. The admissions person at each school should give you an idea. Bear in mind it isn’t a linear waiting list for most schools, it is based on their admissions criteria so of it is distance then the closer you are the further up the list you go, but if someone lives closer wanting a place I’m the same year then you can go down the waiting list.
