The Nonsuch admissions webpage has recordings:

Recording of open evening headteacher’s speech

Recording of open evening admissions speech

How wonderful!

Less pressure for parents when trains or parking are a nightmare on the day and you’re forced to choose between listening to the staff in the hall or seeing the school. No he-said-she-said. A chance to listen to a synopsis again.

I really hope other schools consider this. We must have visited a dozen schools, maybe more, for Y7. The same rigmarole happens again for Sixth Form. I fully appreciate that a recording is no substitute for visiting the school, but it’s a really helpful way to complement the value of the visit. A two hour Sixth Form open evening in our area was structured so that potential applicants simply couldn’t hear the headteacher AND visit the classrooms of each subject in which they had an interest. The two headteacher talks that evening couldn’t even accommodate everyone who wanted to squeeze into the hall. A recording would have helped.

The Nonsuch team has also provided a flowchart (!) and a carefully written and extremely detailed determined admissions arrangements document. Well worth a look if you run the admissions page for your school, or if your school is still unable to provide clear guidance.

Wallington High School for Girls also publishes the Head Speech. Great idea. Other schools, please consider it.
