What to look for in a tutor

Post by Taz1981 »

Hi All, my dd will be applying for the 11+ Trafford exams in Sept.
she’s been through all the ten min tests books, bond online books and we have downloaded many past papers. She’s had a tutor for the past 6 months but we are still not getting past 20/30%. My honest opinion is that my daughter can do this as her teacher has told me repeatedly that she’s always top of her class, she picks up things really quickly and just need to correct support for these exams. The last tutor never left her with homework and the feedback was always ‘she’s getting better.

I don’t know if we continue with the same tutor or look for a new one. When you looked for a tutor did you have homework? What was the support like after a session and is £30 for once a week reasonable?

Thank you.

What exactly is it that she is getting 20/30 percent for?

Is it a paper? Is it Homework? Is it work that you have that you can check?

Do you feel she is deliberately being given low scores so you pay for more tutoring?

How does dd herself think she is getting on? Does she like working with her tutor?

Does she feel she is learning from them? DG
