Franchise tuition centres v 1 2 1 Tutors online
I have a few choices for tuition for my son and i could use some help from people who have been through this already. My son is finding maths a little hard so i am looking to get some tuition now to help him. I have tried to help but i cannot explain things in a way he understands - he is meeting his targets but sometimes makes lot of errors according to his teacher.
I am hoping he can take the 11 plus but my main concern is to help him become more confident.
One is a ....... this has been set up to support all children from 5 to 13 years of age. They tend to hire non tutors (mainly highly motivated teenagers) and train them so they can offer help. It uses alot of tech / apps to help the kids.
One is ......... - this teaches maths and english, the lady who runs it oversees the classes. It teaches through self learning so kids work through paper questions but the tutor is there to offer help.
I was unsure about these ........
My other option is a primary school teacher - face to face - she has been teaching for 8ish years. She doesn't have much experience with the 11+ but she is a teacher and it would be face to face.
My last option will be online tuition with an experienced 11+ teacher - i am hoping an experienced and highly recommended teacher can help him more even though it will be online.

There is absolutely no objection to discussing the method of tuition.

I don't think it's easy to give a straight answer to your question.
Personalities are important. Some people will thrive with computer based learning and others won't. Some people will learn well in a group and others will do better 121. Some tutors are weirdos who shouldn't be within 500m of a child.
I wouldn't consider anything that isn't specialist 11+ for my area if that helps.
It depends a bit on your goals. The primary school teacher might give your son the best grounded and diverse eduction but this might not be the best way to pass a test. A dedicated 11+ tutor might be great at drilling out test results but might not teach anything that sticks after the test.

Every child is different what works for one might not work for another. Here I would think 121 is probably the best as the tutor can try different techniques for your child.
But one thing is true which ever of these options you choose - you have to put the hours in yourself. No tutor/tuition centre etc is going to help your child with a few hours a week. The main consolidation work comes from the parent(s).

Our two went to a dedicated 11 plus tutor who teaches small groups of 5 or 6 in her home. It's good having a peer group who are going through the same thing and to compete with.
Other benefits of having a tutor I would say are they know what's expected, a good one can really help motivate as well as set expectations about amount of work to be put in, they teach more difficult concepts and do an hour or so a week tests and practice with them. But as bridges said most of the work and practice is at home, with you making sure they do it, helping when stuck, marking practice exercises and tests, going through it with them etc.

Sorry, conscious that's probably not much help if you're having difficulty explaining. The answer booklets in some of the 11 plus practice books are pretty good at explaining as well as giving the answer - CGP from memory. You could get hold of one of those for the lower age range and try starting with that?
