Digressing from the OP's request , I think it really does depend on the locality and the school.

I believe one simple approach to identifying the number of state and independent primary school pupils is to look at a school's Progress 8 scores, which analyse Key Stage 2 and 4 results. I believe the number of pupils with this score indicates the number from the state sector. For 2019, with a Y7 intake in 2014, the total number of Key Stage 4 pupils, and the number and percentage of pupils with Key Stage 2 results are:

HBS 103 75 73%
Watford Boys 190 165 87%
QE 180 158 88%
DAO 221 194 88%
Watford Girls 179 164 92%
Latymer School 192 176 92%
Parmiter's 205 194 95%
St Michael's Catholic Grammar 94 90 96%

QE, Watford Boys and DAO all had around 12% intake from the independents. HBS seems to be very much an outlier, with more than a quarter from the indies. Still it's interesting as it means a fair number of prep school girls were able to ace what are considered amongst the toughest of 11+ tests.

As an aside, I couldn't find data for successful exam candidates and maybe DG can point us towards it but, in response to a FOI request, DAO reported the overall number of independent school pupils to be around 12% for 2020 and 2021 entry, so no change since 2014.
