Changes to grammar schools admissions?

Hello! My son will be sitting the grammar tests this year, i.e. September 2010, for admission in 2011. We live out of borough. Some time ago I read somewhere in this forum that there would be changes to the selection criteria for Bexley grammar schools and it was suggested that the top 180 criterion would be removed. Can anybody confirm if the changes will be in place for the 2011 admissions? My understanding is that if changes are considered then there should be a public consultation, but there is nothing published on the Bexley Admissions website yet. Does that mean there will be no changes for 2011? Thank you.

I think it's unlikely that there will be any changes for entry to secondary in 2011. I believe there is going to be a much-needed review of the selection process in Bexley but it's unlikely the review and consultation could take place in time to implement any changes for next year. There's no guarantee anyway that the top 180 criterion would go, though lots of people think it likely.

The fact that you are out of borough does not necessarily mean you need to rely on being in the top 180 (remember over 4.5k kids sat the test last year), you can still be out of borough, but within distance. The Council's websites gives distances that GSs have gone out to in recent years.
