Top 180 in Bexley and no offer

Post by Templefortune »

Hello,

DS is in top 180 and we put Bexley schools as choices 3,4,5 (Olaves and DGS as top 2).

Disappointingly we havent been offered any of our choices which has really perplexed us as we thought Bexley guarantees a place to those in top 180? Anyone experienced something similar and can explain how the process works post offer day and whether we might get an offer for April? We are also hoping for OOC place at DGS (score 403), but no Bexley offer has thrown us.

You only get one offer. Have you been offered your first or higher preference school?

If you’ve not received a higher preference school then I would clarify your situation with both the school and LA.

We didn't receive any of our choices. Will call school on Monday and LA too. Thanks

this is very odd, you should at least have got the Bexley place

- yes call your LA - let us know how you get on.

I would call up. My understanding was that you are guaranteed a Bexley place. It may be an error on the LA side or could it be on yours? Did you make your application to the correct LA and on time?

My money would be on it being a mis- / lack of communication between LAs, if this was an on time application, but from a different home LA. Even if both authorities involved are part of Admissions, its the individual A which is responsible for the process for the schools on its 'patch', not some overarching entity actually doing the actual allocations from all the applications from everywhere in the system.

The good news is, that these issues are usually sorted out fairly quickly, once flagged up.

Thanks for the reassuring messages. We applied to our LA and can clearly see all the options made on our application (submitted on time). Aiming to speak to our school HT too tomorrow and then get on phone to Our LA and Bexley.
Really stressful to be at the receiving end of an admin error like this.

Good Luck and it should be sorted out fairly quickly - as far as phone calls go start with your LEA as they seem to have totally missed allocating a school

Echoing HM's advice- your primary school has nothing to do with the process; your home LA needs to know ASAP if an apparent error has been identified.

Did you manage to find out what happened? Hopefully it hasn’t been too stressful!
