St Olaves - tutoring strategy

Post by chg-2003 »

Hi,

I know a number of forum users were successful in gaining 'Likely' outcomes to the St Olaves test last year - many congratulations to you and your DSs. I would be very grateful if you could share any tips or recommendations for preparation. I am undecided as to whether to DIY with DS or find a tutor. I successfully DIY-ed with DD last year (Newstead, Bexley top 180, Kent) but feel that St Olaves might need a different approach and skill set. He would sit the test in 2015. Any thoughts very gratefully received! :D

Many thanks.

If it were me I would DIY for the Bexley and Kent test and if you really want St Olaves get a tutor to do the topics for St Olaves. I know a fair few people who have done it that way over the last few years. Seems those specialist St Olaves tutors are getting good results.

Yes, I think the direction of travel seems to be towards specialist tutors. May be it is because the exam patterns for Olave's is so different to Bexley (CEM) and Kent - both in terms of format and complexity . I agree - you could DIY for Bexley and Kent but CEM is kind of a gamble due to ridiculous time for sections.

Best of luck.

Thank you MerlinFromCamelot and Parent 2013, these sound like good suggestions. I am thinking along those lines - just got to take DS to St Olaves now and see if it will appeal to him and motivate him. :)
