Grammar School - Girls

Post by tand »

Hi,

thinking for DD and possible options for grammar school near by to Orpington area as DS goes to St olave.
In dilemma where I need to move to Bexley, Swanley or Dartford so DD can apply for Kent or bexley.
Don;t want to go to far from orpington otherwise will be long commute for DS.

any thoughts...

If you are already in Orpington, then Newstead Wood would be the obvious choice, I think?

Newstead - very tough
DGS Girls - again highly competitive as you are OOC
Townley - target top 180 in Bexley or move into catchment
Wilmington - catchment. OOC = 15 seats

back up - Darrick

Thanks Toadmum - you are right. Newstead is choice but given the background about competition is quite tough hence exploring other options..

parent2013 - thanks for response.
I am thinking if I need to move from orpington - whether bexley or dartford..to come in catchment...
for townley - not sure if i can apply now as we are not in catchment.
DGS - again 15 seats to for OOC which means same competition as newstead...

any other suggestions please..

In the last few years, Townley have taken all girls that applied including a few that missed the pass mark by 1. The details for this year will be available in the booklet that Bexley produce for the 2016 intake.

For Dartford girls,as of this year's admissions, the maximum number of girls admitted from Dartford adrea and the parishes is now 100 so assuming girls in care and siblings come up to about 20,there's still about 40 odd spaces for OOC girls so it's not quite as tight as previous years.

No need to move in to Bexley or get top 180 to get in to Townley.. Has been undersubscribed for years.. Newstead is not that difficult to pass imo. DD1 had a high enough score many moons ago but we decided it was not for us. Newstead was our back up option in case Bexley went wrong.
