Re: Question 31 in Saint Olaves Sample paper!!
The answers are on the last page. I felt that q30 was extremely hard. Managed to crack it but my brain was completely fried by then and I couldn't see the logic for q31. I left it for the night and picked it up next morning and realised that it was much simpler than I thought. Doesn't mean it was easy!

Gah! Q30 giving me a headache - can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this please?

Re: Question 31 in Saint Olaves Sample paper!!
The questions are indeed tricky.
Q30. Not to exaggerate but it took me approx a minute to crack it but with a spreadsheet & formulas. Not sure how our little ones would cope.
Logic Hint: The totals must be same
Q31. Question is not correct (as previously highlighted). It should be FAXAFD
Logic Hint: Work backwards. The difference goes up by 1
PM me for full solution. I am busy this weekend but can reply early next week.

Re: Question 31 in Saint Olaves Sample paper!!
Sorry to reopen this link as it appears to be closed but some last minute help would be useful. Having worked out that there is a mistake in question 30 and explained to DS and having thought I understood the suggestion of "total" for answering question 31 I still can not see the answer.
Also whilst asking could anyone explain to me why the answer to q.29 being B.
DS got the rest correct but his silly dad can't help him with 29 and 31.
Any advice via PM would be helpful.
Thank you and good luck to the children sitting the SET next week.

You can post a summary of the answer. If you look in the Maths section answers are posted all the time. DG
Re: Question 31 in Saint Olaves Sample paper!!
luckydad the mistake appears to be in question 31. I am rushing out now but will try to explain q29 and 31 later. I am still stuck on q30 so if someone could post an explanation of that, I'd be grateful.
The question is; Use the following special alphabet to answer these code questions.
12345 6789A BCDEF GHIJK LMNOP QRSTU VWXYZ
A. if AR8F = PARK what is 7KB3?
A; SPIN B; CHIP C;FROG D;SHOW E;THEY
Spoiler alert! The answer is D but how???
This question is now driving me a bit potty so if someone could explain it I'd be very grateful (and how on earth can a 10 year old do this in a minute or less!)

Re: Question 31 in Saint Olaves Sample paper!!
I managed 31 once the mistake had been identified.
Question 29 has been explained to me and now get that I think.
As for question 30, it has also fried my brain and as bright as I think our 10 year old this is way beyond him. He normally gets these before I do! Someone had given a clue easier on in this thread which I thought I understood and indeed can get to correct answer but it does not seem to work for the example so still puzzled. Just glad I am not sitting this on Friday
