Waiting lists
Does anyone know whether you can put a school first on your CAF which you are maybe unlikely to get (either through catchment area size or score) take a school further down your list and go on the waiting list for the first place school but if you are offered it at a later date not take up that offer ie if you mentally commit to school B and only get offered school A a few weeks before? I assume this is ok but wanted to understand the waiting list process better.

Re: Waiting lists
Each authority has its own process so check in your own booklet. The most common process (that I've seen) is that you are automatically put on waiting list for a higher preference and will be notified of that and given choice of relinquishing. However some authorities will do an auto replace process and some won't put you on wait list unless formally notified.

Yes, it's very important to check with your council. Some will only put you on the waiting list if:
You request it, so not automatically.
You haven't got a higher preference choice. So, for example, if you got, say choice 4 and decided to go on the waiting list for 1, 2 and 3, that would be allowed, but NOT choices 5 and 6.
