Which school are you interested in?

The Bexley secondary transfer booklet has a helpful table showing furthest distances offered in the last few years. Last year Townley went to 9.7 miles (walking route) but all the others were quite a lot less than 9 miles.

I feel just like I can't be happy for his passing, I am proud of my DS, he got 239 but he won't be taken because he lives far from all schools. It is very disappointing

it's a very very good score.... out of roughly 3000 Boys (50% of 6000), he would be ranked around 200... there is nothing to be disappointed. wait for other super selective where he has a good chance assuming he has applied for other schools... and just put your child's preference of school on the CAF form. The school will not be a major determinant of how your child does in future provided he goes to a decent school (any mildly selective grammar is good, and in fact less selective the better in my opinion).

Well done to all kids and parents - regardless of outcome today.

We made it and fell short of top 180 by one point.
As we are ooc too still sitting on the fence and waiting anxiously for next week's results.

I have read the other posts about distance being the criteria if not on top 180.
Would that be purely distance alone or would being this close to 251 make a difference at all?

Thanks

I'm afraid to say, unless you have a sibling link, it's purely on distance alone, score doesn't come into it. Well done to your DC though, that really is an amazing score for what I hear was a very difficult exam. You have every reason to be proud.

Mintan, you need to check the admissions criteria for each school you are interested in.

My understanding is that only the top 180 are guaranteed and grammar place - for children who pass but not in the top 180, the other oversubscription criteria apply (eg looked after children, sibling, distance).

But you need to look this up for yourself in relation to the particular school you are interested in, as they have slightly different policies. (Didn't you check before you registered your child for the test?)

Thank you for the replies.

Yes, I did check the admissions criteria and we also visited townley last year.

Sometimes desperation and naivety take over common sense :-)

I don't think Bexley operate an ooc policy as so many neighboring boroughs are closer to the grammar schools than some parts of Bexley - the best thing to do would be look at previous years distance offered and see if that's is realistic to here you live
It's only a guide as changes each year but wishing you luck x

My DS got 238 and we are from OOC. "Admission to secondary schools in Bexley" PDF received with score today tells us that we can move to Bexley by 8th Dec 2017. Do we still need to fill up CAF by 31st Oct under our current Local Authority providing schools in Bexley as top priority and then inform Bexley LA whenever we move to Bexley before 8th Dec?
Can anybody please guide here about the process how to apply for schools in Bexley before 31st Oct when you have actually not moved into Bexley?
