Newstead Results 2018

Wife has intercepted the postman! She was so crazy this morning, with worry, that she took to the streets to hunt him down :)

I've created this thread to share our results and try to work out whether we're in or not. For many this isn't the end, but the beginning of the end, so let's help each other through this and try to ease each other's worry. It's the uncertainty that is the killer.

So good luck to everyone waiting to get their results today. Best of luck!

Our DD got 228, so based on historical data, we're pretty sure she's in, but of course, until 1st March, nothing is in the bank yet. We have our fingers crossed!

All the best.

Congratulations ashishashah!

The letter says that historical cut-off scores are between 215-220. Based on that you're in, but of course no guarantee until 1st March. Would have to be a large upward swing to prevent entry, anything is possible I guess, though unlikely I would hope!

Congratulations to your DDs. Those are both good scores. 222 got in on offer day last year (going down to 220, waitlist 13 in the late spring) and unless the PP places make a major difference they sound like very solid scores for an offer on 1 March if Newstead is the school for your DD.

Unfortunately my DD didn't make it. Feeling really bad now as her sister is at NW. I cannot believe it as her GL papers she was getting over 90%. There must be a big error. Has anyone had the papers remarked? or appealed successfully?

Hi
Just got the letter - my daughter scored 213
is it worth listing the school on the CAF with this score?
any idea how the waitlist works?? if we listed it as our second choice would that put us further down the wait list?
thank you!

If you put a school as 2nd on your CAF and are offered the first place then you will not be considered at all for your second place school. If you really want to a place then you have to put it first and appeal if you don't get offered in March.

I honestly am not sure of the scores for this school am sure someone else will know the recent successful scores

Thank you that is super helpful! and so confusing - she passed in others so it feels safer to put them first, however Newstead was very much our first choice!

Hi Sobz, so sorry to hear of the news. There was someone on the forum last year who was convinced their DD's mark must be an error and they got the paper remarked and it did jump up 20 marks which was a significant error! So it is worth trying.

Apal the lowest score to have got in in the past few years is 215 but you never know. That year people had got a letter saying the lowest score to have got in in recent years was 218. This meant some on 215 didn't even put it on their CAF thinking they were not within a chance so they missed out. Last year the score on offer day was 222, this went down in late spring to 220, waitlist position 13.

I haven't seen that there've been any successful appeals for NW in the past five years, but someone correct me if they've seen the Bromley booklet say anything other than that.

Ah - that is super helpful! Best not to chance it if it was 220 last year! Thank you :)
