For anyone that's interested. Personally I think a school is much more than it's performance tables/Ofsted etc. but it is still good to see how they fare against each other.

Yes, when you're interested in a school's persistent absence record they are very useful. Thanks for posting Hopeful.

I saw this yesterday but its still provisional and not complete yet. One year's data should be viewed with caution .. Ofsted look for three year trends.

Yes, true, but I'm only after the absence info at this stage, which will be correct.

If it helps anyone, I e.mailed the head at Beths yesterday as their GCSE figures and progress 8 have fallen this year. He replied quickly which I was impressed with and explained that the figures are based on a pupil's top 8 GCSE scores in Y11. At Beths they sit 2 GCSEs in Y10 then 8 in Y11. The Beths figures were based on all of their Y11 results and not just the top 8 as in other schools and the early GCSEs they sat (probably in their best subjects) were not counted as they were marked as A*-G rather than 9-1. He says this will sort itself out in the next few years as all GCSE results will be 9-1 and he fully expects the progress 8 score to rise (it was 0.62 last year so pretty good).

Beth's were at fault in sitting them early really. Universities don't like it at all and here they have shot themselves in the foot - no sympathies here as all this was known well in advance..

I wasn't really trying to defend them or elicit sympathy - just provide information which I thought some parents might find helpful.

What he said is a bit misleading though as English and Maths would have had 9-1 grades anyway so they are included. Which subjects were sat early?

They don’t do Maths or English early so not misleading - not sure why you’re being so negative?
I know they choose between DT, computer science and economics as one of their early GCSEs and not totally sure about the other but my son said he thinks it’s the language that was started in Y7. He might be wrong.

I'm just trying to understand why a school would do this. It's the same as RGS High Wycombe who were bottom of the league tables last year because the students took iGCSE English.
