Goodness, that was a quick move, last weekend you were in Hounslow. You keep asking about lots of different schools asking about the commute to Nonsuch. Which do you think would suit your child best? What order did you put them in on your CAF & what date can you change your CAF until?Hi All,

It depends on your child and your circumstances but I would compare the two schools as follows.Monu wrote:Hi All,

1. Tonbridge may be farther than Townley from Orpington but commute could be easier (depending on where precisely in Orpington you are, this might not be applixable.)
2. Tonbridge has better facilities than Townley (if this is something of importance to you.)
3. You need to demonstrate stronger academic aptitude in order to gain a place in Tonbridge than to gain a place in Townley if you live in Orpington.
4. Tonbridge is less diverse in terms of ethinic/cultural/social background of the pupils than Townley.
5. Tonbridge has the IB system while Townley follows the GCSE/A-level system (although you can move schools for the 6th form to suit your needs.)

Re: Townley Grammar or Tonbridge
I know girls at both schools.
Culturally they are quite different. Standard subjects are also different so do investigate that.
I am assuming if you’ve recently moved then it isn’t for September 2021 entrance as that would be rather late, so hopefully you will get to attend an open day and see.
Bear in mind Townley is ‘easier’ to get into as it only requires a pass but then does restrict on distance and in 2016 didn’t come out as far as Orpington due to a combination of popularity and high birth year. So it could be unattainable again. Tonbridge out of county needs a very high score. Girls in Orpington though often have the option of Weald of Kent as it has come out as far in recent years and only needs a Kent pass.
If you’ve moved to Orpington is there a reason you don’t mention Newstead? DD is at Newstead and thriving there.
