Exams 2021: How will my grades be assessed this year?
Exams have been cancelled for the second year running due to the impact caused by coronavirus.
The government have put schools will be in charge of grades and assessments this summer in a bid to avoid the results day chaos caused by last year's controversial algorithm.
But how will this solution work and is it fair?

Proposed changes to the assessment of GCSEs, AS and A levels in 2022
GCSE
GCSE
- 1. Choice of topics in GCSE English literature, history, ancient history and choice of content in GCSE geography.
2. Maths and English Literature to remain the same, with no change in the curriculum or exam structure, although a formulae sheet should be allowed in the exam room for GCSE mathematics. This is as they believe it is essential that the full curriculum is covered in these key foundational subjects.
3. Exam boards should provide advance information about the focus of the content of the exams in all other subjects at GCSE. This advanced information will be issued in the spring term to help students to focus their revision time
4. Proposing to allow centres to deliver practical work by demonstration or observe practical work being undertaken remotely in GCSE biology, chemistry, physics, combined science, geology and astronomy
5. GCSE physics and combined science students should be provided with a revised equation sheet.
6. Exams will take place at the same time as in a typical year in exam halls
- 1. Exam boards should be required to provide advance information about the focus of the content of exams at both AS and A level. This advanced information will be issued in the spring term to help students to focus their revision time
2. Changes to the assessment of art and design and to the arrangements for the delivery of science practicals.
3. Exams will take place at the same time as in a typical year in exam halls

Re: GCSE 2020
Fortunately, DS2's school provided all that in written form. Content notwithstanding, that has got to be a contender for the Most Annoying Video of the Year award .test1 wrote:How A Level and GCSE results are calculated

Well 2 years later and after a lot of debate at the time on this thread...we seem to finally heading towards the first public exams for this cohort - although it is for A levels.test1 wrote:Coronavirus: Schools told no delays so far to exams
Ofqual says it is working with exam boards and the government to make contingency plans if there is a "widespread outbreak".
But until that becomes necessary, the watchdog is telling schools to assume exams will continue as scheduled.
Most GCSEs and A-level exams are planned to run from early May.
On Monday, Ofqual issued advice that "students, schools and colleges should continue to prepare for the summer exams and assessments as usual".
But it said there would be guidance to "manage any particular risks" to the exam season if coronavirus became widespread.
All the best to everyone and their DCs.

I had two who ended up skipping actual exams. When I think back to when I joined this site for my eldest to sit an eleven plus and what’s happened since it’s surreal.
