How much do grades improve in one year?

Post by Clare »

Hi

Does anyone know how much grades improve in one year?

For instance if you are grade B now would you be likely to be able to go up one grade and be looking at an A grade at GCSE?

Hi Clare
My DD was told that to be on track for her predicted scores then she be scoring no more than 2 grades lower ie ,

if predicted an A then to be on track she needs to score no lower than a C

so if she scored a B now then she should be on track for an A or even an A*

hope that helps

Grades change and go up and down due to many reasons. The biggest reason for grade changes (either up or down) is the attitude of the child.

I have seen a well motivated D grade student achieve an A grade and at the same time sen an A grade student with attitude get a D.

To answer your question, it is very easy for a B grade student to improve to an A in one year, if the child wants it enough.

However, you do need to check the baseline. For example, a C grade student already improved to a B grade will find it harder to get an A grade than a B grade student currently working at a B grade. A note of caution as a good school will already have routinely raised a C grade student to a B grade and you may be trying to stretch a student who has already been stretched.
