DD3 did German in year 9 - given one month's notice (otherwise everyone would want to and isn't school policy) Needed to take exam as dropping subject as had chosen other ones. Got A*. No extra tuition and little time to prepare also no support from home. Only worth doing if going to get good grade as will affect uni application.
