Art and Design EDexcel

Post by P's mum »

Anyone have any experience of this? My daughter will probably choose this (the alternative is Music theatre with a LAMDA qualification). At the start of the course there is scope for the full GCSE or the short GCSE or ultimately unexamined. As far as I can tell, from the Edexcel website, the difference between the short and full GCSE is whether one or two media are used.

Is it fairly practical i.e. an antedote to a pretty high academic work load? Given the time commitment of the portfolio does this tend to argue for a short GCSE unless the child turns out to be very committed?

Any other advice?

I understand there is a lot of coursework for Art. A friend of mine who is a teacher said that it is the most time-consuming subject due to all the portfolio work.
Admittedly it is a change from academia but not an easy option.
