Re: GCSE Options advice/Options on Food Technology
Hi worried ruby
My dd chose food tec as an option because she is not academic. But there is more to food tec than cooking!
She has to know about ingredients, food types, and assess her own work by writing it down.
Her teacher said it is a good subject, practical because we all need to learn to cook, about healthy eating, and can lead on to a career such as nutritionist or dietician.
She doesn't get much homework compared to other subjects, but really enjoys it.

Not my subject at all, but I did end up covering it. They were designing packaging, which they were enjoying.

Huge amount of effort, loads of coursework , mind you if you have to take a DT ( as mine had to ), it's not as bad as graphics. Can't comment on any other DT subjects, as I don't know.
If you don't have to take a DT, I would choose something else.

Re: GCSE Options advice/Options on Food Technology
thank you for your replies. DT is optional so no pressure to take food tech. , he wants to do Drama instead.!!! so research on drama begins.
Drama is optional too.
So far he has chosen all academic subjects.
2 English Lang/Lit
1. Maths
3 science
1 mfl
1 history
1 geography
Not inerested in doing full PE , might do short PE.
So that's total 9 GCSE , does he need to take any of the optional subjects?

Short answer is 'No'. He has ticked all the boxes necessary! Beyond this there is only interest or added breadth. I always advised year 9 to choose either an arty one or PE to show that they weren't just academic. This has become less important with the drive towards a narrow curriculum.

Drama is great. My two daughters did it, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
