Which one Geography or Full RS?

Post by Potterfan »

Can anyone advise on the following, in terms of workload and taking to A level and Uni?

My DC really wants to do History.
Should DC do
a. History, Geography with a Half- RS course.
or
b. History with a Full RS course.

DC doesn't know what career to do. And struggles with the sciences, and maths. Also considering Food tech.

Geography will keep more options open. It's harder to pick up at a later stage whereas an A level in RS isn't required to study Theology/religion at degree level.

Dd1 did History, Geography and RS and is now doing History and RS at A level. The syllabuses are all changing but her RS exam was lots of small mark questions which was a real race. Very easy to lose precious marks in that exam. Geography was a more traditional essay style exam. Dd2 had to choose between Geography and RS and chose Geography because as KB has already stated she had the option of picking up RS at A level without doing the GCSE.

I am a big fan of Geography as everything is so topical but you should look closely at the new syllabus and exams and also consider the quality of the teaching in these subjects at your school. DG
