It is a funding issue - three A levels is what schools are being funded to provide ...

It is an independent one, she moved school and we decided to make the sacrifice.
DD says 75% of her cohort are thinking of doing 3 A-levels, 20%, one AS and 3 A-levels and 5% to carry four As to the end.

Some are offering more than three but are making 'cuts' elsewhere e.g. larger teaching groups, fewer lessons.

In some schools the sixth form is being expanded to cover the lower funding or the teaching is being subsidised by cuts to teaching assistants or other support staff.

In the worst cases the sixth form is being subsidised by cutting provision to Years 7 to 11 ...

Sadly, this would mean even less scope for depth in studies.

Has this already started or is this planned from September 2017? I observe that several pupils at a college (funded by the state) are studying 4 A levels ( they have started their AS in September 2016).

Maybe rather less scope for breadth in studies? ... Which unfortunatley is already one of the drawbacks of the British education system compared to some other countries.
