I think they were only trying to be helpful KCG
I know....I was just pointing out I wasn't actually seeking advice, just making conversation and hijacking the OP'S thread! I'll get back in my box now....

Well thank you everyone. We have road tested (paper tested) 5 different pens from biro to liquid ink and the winner is a Uniball liquid ink one. I particularly liked the Uniball website (thanks hermanmunster and Amber) as you can search by pen type, so exclude all the gel ones! Also helpful to get feedback from an invigilator too.

Hello,

Slightly o/t to the original question but how many pens will you advise your DS to take into an exam and why?
In theory, you can only write with one pen at a time so as long that pen worked properly through the exam, the answer to my question is irrelevant, no?

A minimum of two - plus all the other stuff for particular subjects.

Agree with Guest - minimum of two...if one runs out, you have another so don't waste any time hoping the invigilator offers you another!

Agree with G55, though from DS's recent experience in mocks, keep at least three. You never know when the BF turns up with no pens and your DC insists on sharing the only 2 he/she has.

Thank you for replying Kenyancowgirl and Tiffinboys.

Tiffinboys, thankfully it was the mocks and not the real exams.
